SPORTS & CONCUSSION

CONCUSSION = BRAIN INJURY. Each year, about 300,000 sports-related traumatic brain injuries occur in the United States, and most can be classified as concussions. Concussions are caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. They can range from mild to severe and can disrupt the way the brain normally works. Even a “ding” or a bump on the head can be serious. BIAF has a website for athletes, coaches, parents and trainers, where they can learn the signs and symptoms of brain injury, develop an action plan to avoid these types of injuries, watch videos and psa's and find resources devoted to sports and concussion: www.thinkbraininjury.com.
